Watercolor

I had the sweetest evening with a group of mom friends and mentors, gathered around the table painting with watercolor. There was something so special about slowing down together, creating, and reconnecting.
Watercolor used to be a regular part of my life—a medium I returned to often as a hobby while studying at SCAD during my MFA in Design Management. Later, it became something I paired with my photography during my time as an Artist Resident at the Nantucket Island School of the Arts in the summer of 2013.
These days, I mostly paint with acrylics, so I felt a little rusty at first. But it didn’t take long to remember why I love watercolor so much. It fits so naturally with my loose, painterly style—fluid, expressive, and a little unpredictable in the best way.
I’m excited to weave it more into my practice again, and I’ve found so much inspiration from following Emily Lex on Instagram—a fellow red-headed mom and artist who celebrates the messy, joyful, creative life. Here's one image from that inspiring night. - HBR
